Bill drafts, history, preferences, known people, and recently copied payment handles all live on your device. The only things written server-side are the ones you opt into by tapping a feature: anonymous sign-in, claimed handle/payment IDs, friend graph, live-room state, push tokens, and (Pro only) cross-device history sync.
No. The full local flow — scan, split equally or by weight, hand off to a payment app — works without sign-up. An account only matters if you want friends, live rooms, push notifications, or cross-device sync. Even then it's an anonymous Firebase identity by default; linking Apple Sign-In is optional.
Optional Pro subscription — $2.99/mo or $24/yr. Pro lifts the receipt-scan cap, removes the history limit, and adds the repeat-split widget. The free tier is genuinely useful, not a teaser. We don't sell data and never will; that's in the privacy policy as a binding statement, not a marketing line.
The image is sent to a Cloud Function we run, forwarded to Google Cloud Vision for OCR, and discarded the moment the line items come back. We don't keep a copy. The recognized text lands on your device for editing — that's where it lives.
Yes, kind of. Anyone in the room can join via a 4-letter code or QR link from a web fallback page that handles the claim flow. To send the actual payment request through Venmo/Cash App/Zelle/PayPal, the receiver still needs the corresponding payment app — but Split & Pay itself is optional for guests.
We process under contract for the App and Pro, legitimate interests for security and live-room abuse-prevention, and consentfor camera, contacts, location, and push permissions. Settings → Privacy → “Forget me” deletes your cloud profile, friends, devices, and pending requests in one tap. Full breakdown in the privacy policy.
