Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 27, 2026
Pacelit is a local-first activity tracker. We designed it so we never see your data — and this policy explains exactly what that means in practice.
The short version
- Pacelit does not have a backend server. We do not run a service that collects your activities, routes, or health data.
- All activity data — GPS coordinates, heart rate, splits, calories, notes — is stored only on your device.
- There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no email collection, and no social graph.
- We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, ad networks, attribution frameworks, or session-replay tools.
- You can delete every piece of data Pacelit has stored by uninstalling the app or using Settings → Erase all activities.
Data Pacelit collects on your device
When you use Pacelit, the following data is recorded and saved locally on your phone or watch:
- Activity records: start/end timestamps, duration, activity type (run, ride, hike), distance, average pace, elevation gain, calories.
- Route coordinates: latitude, longitude, altitude, and timestamp samples (about every 5 seconds while tracking).
- Health metrics: heart rate samples and workout data read from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect / Google Fit (Android), only with your explicit permission.
- Preferences: units, theme, weekly goals, default activity type, weight (used to estimate calories).
Activity records and route coordinates are written to an on-device SQLite database. Preferences are stored in encrypted on-device key-value storage.
Data Pacelit does not collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, or microphone input.
- We do not transmit your location, heart rate, or activity data to any server we operate.
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or brokers.
- We do not embed third-party analytics, advertising, or fingerprinting SDKs.
Permissions Pacelit asks for
Location
Pacelit requests foreground and background location access so it can record your route while the screen is off. Location is sampled only during an active tracking session and stops when you end the activity.
Motion & Fitness
Used on iOS to estimate distance and detect activity when GPS signal is weak (e.g. tunnels). Processed on-device.
HealthKit / Health Connect
Optional. If you grant access, Pacelit reads heart rate during workouts and may write your completed workouts back so they appear in Apple Health or Health Connect. You can revoke access at any time in your device's system settings.
Notifications
Used for milestone alerts (e.g. lap splits, goal completion) and Live Activities on the iOS lock screen. No remote push notifications are sent — all notifications are scheduled locally by the app.
Camera roll / Photos
Only requested if you choose to set a custom cover image for an activity, or to save a story card or route replay video. We do not scan your library.
Apple Watch & companion sync
If you use the Pacelit watchOS app, activity data recorded on the watch is transferred to your iPhone via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework over a Bluetooth/Wi-Fi link between your own devices. The data does not pass through our servers.
Sharing — story cards & route replay videos
When you tap Share on an activity, Pacelit renders a story card or route replay video on your deviceand then hands it to your operating system's share sheet. From that point, what you do with the file (post it to Instagram, AirDrop it, save it, etc.) is governed by the destination app's own privacy policy.
Crash reports & diagnostics
Pacelit does not include third-party crash reporting (e.g. Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Bugsnag). On iOS, if you have Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share with App Developers enabled, Apple may send anonymous crash logs to us through App Store Connect. We use those only to fix bugs and never to identify users.
Children
Pacelit is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA / UK). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Your rights
Because we don't store your data on our servers, requests under GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws to access, port, or delete data should be made directly through your device. To export, you can use the in-app share / export controls. To delete, use Settings → Erase all activities, or simply uninstall the app.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be highlighted in the app's release notes.
